(A blend of minuscule real time events and a pinch of drama…)

It was a long road and the fog started to thicken till the visibility reached to just 2 feet away. For the 13th time, I questioned myself, “Why was I here?” To keep it simple and going, I missed my flight, being too busy window-shopping at the airport! The turn of events and talk of some associates got me landed in a village where I had to spend the night.

I was pulled back from the rewind when the car jerked in middle of nowhere. “Gears keep getting stuck”, the driver murmured before hitting 90 again. The car wasn’t very crappy — just some torn leather and muck smell. After what seemed like a hundred and fifty turns, we screeched to a halt outside a huge gate. The gate was astonishingly quiet, given the amount of rust it bore.

I stepped out and stretched myself. The space was big, the house was compact. Restrooms were outside of the house. Logs of wood were lit and fitted from outside… Oh! A special water heating arrangement! Never the less, I didn’t know how to use it and ended up with chilled water.

The house was cozy, one rectangular sit-out room led to a slightly bigger other. We dined there. The food was hot and almost the best I had since a few days… I was shown my room and there wasn’t much of talking. I concluded everyone was tired…

11.17 pm

I tossed around, sleep was playing tricks and the roomed warmed up uncomfortably. Though I didn’t know how, I figured I needed some fresh air…

I walked out of that gate without realizing till a few minutes that nothing there was locked. The air was cold and everything around was peculiarly still. I walked down casually till I came to an abrupt halt at a T junction. Someone was sitting there, at the edge of the pavement, a…. woman! She was sitting perfectly erect, her back towards me. She held straight in her hand, a heavy wooden log that was handcrafted into a spear. She was staring directly at me, but seemed not to budge.

Wait… how did I know this? Oh… The traffic mirror, except that it wasn’t always there, more like deliberately placed…

To be continued..?
